once, my world
was an eternal, aching night
a cimmerian sky filled with stars,
faintly, strangely bright.
but then you came upon
my jagged mass
of dust and rock,
you with your blinding
threads of fire,
radiant and godlike.
and suddenly
i discovered what it was
to have a sun
to love someone–
to eat rosy warmth
and breathe golden light.
